Solar powered generators are used to produce electricity. Either direct current or alternating current. Alternating current is the most useful type of electricity and what is used in our homes and businesses today.
When you harness solar power, you can produce direct current directly from the sun’s solar power. The steam is used to drive electric generators similar to the conventional power plants today. Or use the sun’s solar power to product steam and use the steam to create electricity.
To use direct current for your home, it must be converted to alternating current.
One drawback is that on earth the sun only shines half the day. So production is only available half the day. It is possible to store solar energy to use later.
But in space the sun’s solar energy is available 24 hours a day. However you then need to get that energy back to earth in a useful format.
