- You are just interested in being the first in your neighborhood to have a solar powered house
- Going green is important to you
- Saving money is important to you and solar power is very low maintenance once the system is up a running
- Over time the solar power electricity will pay for itself
- Or some other reason You fill in the blank ________
The result of all of your thinking and research has lead you to the conclusion that a solar powered house is for you.
First Step in Creation of Your Solar Power House
This first step in the creation of your solar power house has really nothing to do with the sun.
You know you have a certain monthly electricity demand. You also know that the larger your solar power system, the more it costs and the longer it takes to pay for itself.
So the first step is to reduce your monthly electricity demand. The small your demand the small your solar system and the lower the cost.
So now you need to improve the insulation of your home, windows and doors. More energy efficiency for your home is what you are after. Even if you never get to the step of building your solar power system, this step will reduce your electricity load and cost.
So this step is very important to your new power system.
Next Step in Your Solar Power House
Now that you have reduced your energy load and documented its demand, you are ready to determine the size of your solar power unit. You want to size it correctly so you have enough solar power electricity. Any extra electricity can be sold back to the electric power company (be sure this is correct in you area first).
I will discuss the sizing process in future articles.
Just be sure to reduce your electrical load first.
